Le 25 décembre 2005, dans la première année de son mandat comme successeur de Pierre, Benoît XVI publiait une encyclique sur l’amour chrétien: « Deus caritas est ». Pour atteindre la plénitude de cet amour, il rappelait que « des purifications et des maturations sont nécessaires ». On comprend habituellement que ce rappel concerne chaque individu dans son cheminement propre. Mais on oublie trop souvent que, dans la vision biblique, cela concerne aussi le cheminement du peuple juif d’abord, de l’Église et de toute l’humanité par extension. C’est ce qu’on appelle l’histoire du Salut.

He recalled that to attain the fullness of love, "Purification and growth in maturity are called for." We usually understand this reminder as concerning each individual in his own journey. But we all too often forget that in the biblical view, this also concerns the journey of the Jewish people first, of the Church and all humanity by extension. This is what we call the history of Salvation.

L’Histoire avec un H majuscule nous concerne tous. Donc, elle ME concerne. Depuis ma naissance, je suis membre de la famille humaine et je participe à son cheminement.
L’histoire de l’Humanité déploie, chaque jour et depuis l’aube des temps sans doute, son lot de réalisations et de destructions, ce qui a fait concevoir aux Anciens une destinée humaine sans projet particulier sinon celui d’un Éternel Retour des choses, bonnes et mauvaises, et aux Modernes un Avenir défini à l’aulne des ambitions humaines et fondé sur une table rase.

The history of Mankind has from the beginning of time deployed its share of achievements and destruction daily. This led the Elders to derive a conception of human destiny that had no specific goal other than that of the Eternal Return of things, good and bad. Modern thinkers conceived a Future defined by the yardstick of human ambitions that is based on a clean slate.
