«Ce projet est l'aboutissement d'un chemin de vie où saint Joseph s'est trouvé à chaque carrefour, dont le principal m'amena au Liban» Béatrice, initiatrice du projet.
Alors volontaire avec la Délégation Catholique pour la Coopération comme enseignante à Ein Ebel, je découvre Qaouzah et tombe sous le charme de la simplicité et tranquillité de ce petit village-frontière du sud Liban. Sans encore très bien comprendre pourquoi, je ressens l’appel de m’y établir mais comment m’installer, on me propose alors, en septembre 2011, de devenir animatrice de développement socio-économique.

While I was a volunteer for the Catholic Delegation for Cooperation, as a teacher in Ein Ebel, I discovered Qaouzah and fell under the charm of the simplicity and tranquility of this little village on the southern border of Lebanon. Without really understanding why, I feel the calling to establish myself. But how to do this? I was then offered, in September 2011, a position of socio-economic development officer.

J’œuvre pour la restauration d’une maison des Jeunes et propose la création d’une coopérative agricole. Des familles reçoivent alors des plants de zaatar et l’irrigation pour 1000 m². La première récolte est vendue en France puis en Allemagne. Alors que de nombreuses associations libanaises et internationales soutiennent ces initiatives, ces dernières peinent à s'enraciner au niveau local. Je me remets alors en question et prie saint Joseph afin qu’il m’éclaire. Pourquoi a-t-il mis sur ma route Qaouzah, moi qui viens de France, qui ne parle pas l’arabe? C’est alors que, sur la colline qui lui est dédiée, saint Joseph me lance un appel : prier pour la paix et la réconciliation.
Idée folle me direz-vous mais à Dieu rien n’est impossible. Le 4 août 2013, je donne ma vie à Dieu et reçois de Mgr Hage la consécration des vierges afin de prier pour la paix.

And so, I work for the restoration of a house for the Youth, and propose the creation of an agricultural cooperative. The families receive plants of Za’atar and irrigation for 1000 m2. The first harvest is sold in France and in Germany. While many Lebanese and international associations support these initiatives, locally, they struggle to survive. I start to question myself and pray to Saint Joseph so that he may enlighten me. Why did he put Qaouzah on my path, while I come from France and do not speak Arabic? It is then that St Joseph calls out to me: Pray for peace and reconciliation.
Foolish idea, you will tell me, but to God, nothing is impossible. On August 4, 2013, through the hands of Mgr Hage, Maronite bishop of Tyre, I give my life to God and receive the Consecration of the Virgins in order to pray for peace.

Se dessine l’idée d’ermitages de la paix sur la colline saint Joseph de Qaouzah. Lieu de recueillement et de prière, ils ont pour vocation d'accueillir tous ceux qui recherchent la paix et qui souhaitent prier. Le projet s'enracine localement dans le diocèse maronite de Tyr grâce au soutien de Mgr Hage, et du père Tony Hannah, curé de Qaouzah.
Soutenu par l’Aide à l’Église en Détresse et les Œuvres Pontificales Missionnaires de Rome, le projet voit le jour à l’été 2015. Trois ermitages en bois sont érigés avec un petit oratoire. Prière, travaux manuels et agricoles (culture du safran, du zaatar, tressage de lavande et de palmier) rythment les journées. A l’écart du village et en pleine nature, saint Joseph, grand silencieux et patron de l’Église universelle, nous invite à le suivre.

An idea starts for form in my mind: Hermitages of peace on the Saint Joseph hill of Qaouzah. A place for contemplation and prayer, with the mission of welcoming all those who search for peace and wish to pray. The project takes root locally in the Maronite diocese of Tyre, thanks to the support of Mgr Hage and father Tony Hannah, pastor of Qaouzah.
Supported by Aid to the Church in Need and the Pontifical Mission Society of Rome, the project comes to life in the summer of 2015. Three wooden hermitages and one small oratory are erected. The days are punctuated with prayer, manual and agricultural labor (culture of saffron, za’atar, braiding of lavander and palm). Away from the village and surrounded by nature, St Joseph, silent and grand patron of the Universal Church invites us to follow him.

Le projet des ermitages a pu être réalisé grâce au soutien de la municipalité de Qaouzah et d'un bon nombre d’artisans et amis des villages voisins, chrétiens et musulmans de Rmeich, Ain Ebel, Debel, Aita Chaab, Bent Jbeil.
Beaucoup d’amis au Liban et ailleurs croient eux aussi que la paix doit se construire avant tout dans nos cœurs. Nous n’avons d’autres ambitions que de nourrir une petite étincelle de paix ; flamme d’espoir dans ce Moyen-Orient qui a trop longtemps souffert de la guerre. Les ermitages sont aussi lieu de rencontre et de communion pour nous tous, chrétiens et musulmans.

The project of building the Hermitages was made possible through the support of the municipality of Qaouzah and a good number of craftsmen and friends from neighboring villages, Christians and Muslums of Rmeich, Ain Ebel, Debel, Aita Chaab and Bent Jbeil.
Many friends in Lebanon and elsewhere believe that peace must be made first in our hearts. We have only one ambition: rekindle a glimmer of peace, a flame of hope in this Middle-East that has suffered from war for too long. The hermitages are also a meeting place for all of us, Christians and Muslims alike.

La paix n’appartient à personne si ce n’est à Dieu. Ces ermitages ne sont pas miens, ils appartiennent à Dieu, j’aimerais qu’ils deviennent les vôtres.
